"After a long development phase I am happy to announce the release of OpenMediaVault 6 (Shaitan). A big thank you goes to all translators, forum moderators and bug reporters for their contributions and support. The main new features of OpenMediaVault 6: based on Debian 11 'Bullseye'; completely new user interface written from scratch; added some new plugins that are based on containers - these are S3, OwnTone, PhotoPrism, WeTTY, FileBrowser, Onedrive (please note that not all platforms are supported because the upstream base containers are only available for specific CPU architectures); enhanced ISO installer; ensure that /media is unmounted to allow installation to USB devices - this will allow the installation from USB to USB device; /dev/disk/by-label filesystem device files are not supported any more because they are not unique and predictable." The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project's latest release, Tails 5.0, is the first version of the distribution to be based on Debian 11. "We are especially proud to present you Tails 5.0, the first version of Tails based on Debian 11 (Bullseye). It brings new versions of a lot of the software included in Tails and new OpenPGP tools. We added Kleopatra to replace the OpenPGP Applet and the Password and Keys utility, also known as Seahorse. The OpenPGP Applet was not actively developped anymore and was complicated for us to keep in Tails. The Password and Keys utility was also poorly maintained and Tails users suffered from too many of its issues until now. Kleopatra provides equivalent features in a single tool and is more actively developed." Additional information is provided in the project's release announcement. Tails is provided via two separate downloads for DVD and thumb drives. Download (pkglist): tails-amd64-5.0.img (1,218MB, signature, torrent), tails-amd64-5.0.iso (1,208MB, signature, torrent). |

|
ExTiX is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution which replaces the default desktop environment with alternatives. The latest version of ExTiX is 22.5 which is based on Ubuntu 22.04, a long-term support release. "ExTiX Mini Build 220501 with LXQt and Linux kernel 5.17.2 - run it super fast from RAM and/or create your own Linux system using Refracta Snapshot. I've made a new updated mini version of ExTiX - the ultimate Linux system. It is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS 'Jammy Jellyfish'. The ISO image file is of only 1,340 MB which is good if you want to run the system super fast from RAM. It should be enough with 2 GB of RAM. When the boot process is ready, you can eject the DVD or the USB stick. Use 'Boot alternative 2'. The best thing with ExTiX 22.5 is that while running the system live (from DVD or USB) or from hard drive, you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu 22.04 system. So easy that a ten-year old child can do it. ExTiX 22.5 uses Linux kernel 5.17.2. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will be supported until April 2027." Additional information and screenshots can be found in the release announcement. Download (MD5): extix-22.5-64bit-efi-lxqt-mini-1340mb-220501.iso (1,379MB, pkglist). |

Besides the main ISO image, the development team also provides various modules which can be added to the live image to extend its usability. The new Zephix 5 re-introduces the LXQt desktop and firmware modules directly into the live system and ads a "to RAM" boot option: "Zephix 5 has been released. Updated Syslinux and GRUB boot logos to reflect more the Zephix theme; added a 'to RAM' boot option - Zephix can now be loaded totally in memory (if enough RAM is available); changed the default console font; included the desktop and firmware modules by default in the ISO image to make it more usable - this decision was taken thanks to the feedback received from various users."
